GMFS is a joint effort of elevent (11) legal entittes active in a broad spectrum of land evaluation topics and remote sensing based technology development, technology transfer and decision support. The GMFS project is co-ordinated by the Flemish Insitute for Technological Research NV ("VITO") (B) in collaboration with Sarmap (CH), Synoptics (NL), Avia-GIS (B), GIM (B), Trasys (B), ESYS (UK), EARS (NL), ITA (IT), EFTAS (D), ULG (B) and FCS (IT).

The Flemish Insitute for Technological Research (VITO) is the overall project coordinator of GMFS. Besides its coordination role, VITO also has significant experience in the processing and analysis of low and medium resolution optical sensors. Part of its work within GMFS includes the delivery of Early Warning Services (through the delivery of low resolution (optical) indicators) and contribute expertise what concerns the agricultrual mapping products.
